North Harbor Shellfish Harvesting areas now OPEN
In accordance with Chapter 130, Section 74A, of the Massachusetts General Laws, the Division of Marine Fisheries has re-examined the waters of Apponagansett Bay (BB12.3) in the Town of Dartmouth classified as “CONDITIONALLY APPROVED” and in the “CLOSED” status based on seasonal water quality changes. As a result of this examination, the Division has determined that the allowable areas north of the Padanaram Causeway now meet the established criteria for the harvest of
shellfish and has changed the status to "OPEN TO SHELLFISHING."
The "winter season" areas depicted on the state's DSGA BB12 (www.massmarinefisheries.net/shellfish/dsga/BB12.pdf), excluding BB12.1 (west shoreline from bridge to island), BB12.4 & 12.8 (north and west of Little Island) are now open to commercial and recreational harvest in accordance with the Town Shellfish regulations found at: www.town.dartmouth.ma.us/sites/dartmouthma/files/uploads/shellfish_regulations.pdf.
Always check the posted shellfish signs for current harvesting status based upon water quality testing.
